THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NINEBOT-SEGWAY ES2 AND NINEBOT-SEGWAY ES4

EXPLAINING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ES2 AND ES4

Written by Ed Wiles, Scootered Founder

The difference between the Nineboty-Segway ES2 and ES4 is simple: the ES4 is just the ES2 with an extra battery. That's it. So why, one might ask, if it is as simple as that has there been so much confusion over the difference between the ES2 and ES4? Well, I have seen one review site claim that the ES4 is not an official model, but this is not true as Segway themselves sell the ES4 as a separate, official model. But the reviewer can be forgiven his mistake because, in truth, it is hard to call something a separate model when it is in fact just the same model with an extra battery stuck on it. The image below shows the ES4 (with the extra battery) and ES2 side-by-side.

ES4 & ES2

How Much More Powerful Is The ES4?

A full specification of the ES2/ES4 can be found here. But there are only really two differences in performance delivered by the extra battery: a boost to the range and a boost to the maximum climbing angle. The range is almost doubled from 25km to 45km, while the climbing angle increases from 10% to 15%. There is also a comparison between the ES2 and the Xiaomi M365.

Should I Buy The ES2 Or ES4?

So this question is really, "should I buy the extra battery?" We tend to think that it is better to buy the ES2 and see if it is powerful enough for you first. Then you can buy an extra battery if you decide you need the extra range or power. I suppose if you already know you will be travelling further than 20-25 km at a time (the range on one battery), then maybe buy the second battery. Of course, the cheaper Xiaomi M365 has a longer range (of 30km) so it is also worth considering this e-scooter instead. You can see it below.
